Viggo Holm Madsen:
Internationally known print artist, Viggo Holm Madsen is the Artist of the Month for October, 2004 at the Connelly Gallery in Binghamton, NY. Described by the New York Times as one of Long Island's best-known printmakers, Viggo Madsen (b. 1925, d. 1998) mounted more than 200 solo exhibitions in the United States and Europe. A prolific artist, he was dedicated to experimentation using woodcut, embossing, etching, and mixed-media techniques.
The Madsen exhibit, Experiment, Exploration and Adventure, will be at the Connelly Gallery from opening day, Friday, October 1, through Friday, October 15. The exhibit opens as part of Binghamton's First Friday Art Walk series with a Gala Preview Party on Friday, October 1, 2004 from 6:00-9:00 p.m. Harpist Clara Kessler will entertain, playing Renaissance and Celtic music. The preview will extend through Saturday, October 2 from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. The exhibit and sale will continue through October 15, weekdays from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., and at other times by appointment (Telephone: 607-722-9593). A native of Denmark, Viggo Madsen received his B.F.A. and M.F.A. from Syracuse University. He was a professor of art at Nassau Community College for more than twenty years, and was a past president of the New York State Art Teachers Association. An award-winning artist, his work is represented in museum, university and corporate collections including those of Adelphi University, the Pall Corporation and the Panoras Gallery in Manhattan.
